The Atal Progressway, also referred to as the Atal Expressway and formerly known as the Chambal Expressway, is a proposed access-controlled greenfield highway connecting Kota in Rajasthan with Etawah in Uttar Pradesh through Madhya Pradesh. The project is intended to improve connectivity across the Chambal region and link major national expressway corridors.
The Atal Progressway route runs from the Kota area in Rajasthan through Sheopur, Sabalgarh, Morena and Bhind in Madhya Pradesh before reaching Etawah in Uttar Pradesh. The corridor is planned to connect with major routes including the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway and Bundelkhand Expressway.
The Atal Progressway map shows a greenfield corridor running across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The route begins near Kota, passes through the Chambal-region districts of Madhya Pradesh and terminates near Etawah, providing connections to major north-south and east-west highway corridors.
The current corridor is planned from the Kota region to Etawah through Sheopur, Morena and Bhind. Earlier project documents described a 408.77-km alignment, while the 2026 project description gives approximately 414 km. Because the alignment and project scope have evolved, older 2021-2022 map PDFs should not be treated as the definitive current alignment.
The latest 2026 project description puts the Atal Progressway at approximately 414 km, including about 94 km in Rajasthan, 273 km in Madhya Pradesh and 47 km in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier DPR and environmental documents used 408.77 km, so the older figure should be identified as an earlier project scope rather than the latest headline length.
The latest 2026 project announcement puts the Atal Progressway investment at approximately ₹15,000 crore. Earlier government and environmental documents recorded lower estimates, including ₹12,140 crore and ₹12,170.3 crore, reflecting earlier project scopes and cost estimates.
The Atal Progressway is not yet a fully operational or fully constructed expressway. NHAI has taken the project through package-level tendering and implementation preparations, but official records have continued to show some packages in the balance-for-award pipeline. The 2026 project push is focused on advancing the approved corridor toward implementation.
In 2026, the Atal Progressway has received renewed approval and implementation momentum, with the project being described as an approximately 414-km corridor costing around ₹15,000 crore. The Detailed Project Report and implementation process are being advanced, while package-level construction status varies and the complete corridor is not yet under construction.
The major 2026 update is the Union government's approval of the approximately 414-km Atal Expressway connecting Kota and Etawah through Madhya Pradesh. The project, previously known as the Chambal Expressway, is being positioned as a strategic link between the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway and Bundelkhand Expressway, with an estimated investment of about ₹15,000 crore.
The Atal Progressway is planned to create a high-speed east-west connection across the Chambal region, linking the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Kota with the Etawah region and providing connections toward the Agra-Lucknow and Bundelkhand Expressways. This is intended to improve freight movement and regional connectivity across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
